One outfit reveals the body through a deep opening; the other covers it with a surface that seems interrupted by slashes of light. These EGONLAB looks ask us to distinguish between an actual gap and the appearance of one. Both make the boundary between clothing and the body less straightforward than it first appears.

On the left, black fabric covers the head and falls past the torso into a low loop. One arm is sleeved while the opposite shoulder and arm remain bare. The long gown carries the composure of evening dress, yet its upper section appears precariously suspended. Fine horizontal lines cross the exposed area, offering glimpses of support without fully explaining the construction.

That uncertainty changes how the exposed skin reads. It becomes part of a question about how the dress holds together. The covered head and the open torso also pull in different directions: concealment above, exposure below. Rather than presenting the body evenly, the garment directs attention through a carefully uneven distribution of fabric.

On the right, the collar, tie and belt establish a recognisable framework of dressed composure. Across it, pale angular marks resemble creases, scratches or narrow tears. They become larger and brighter on the trousers, but do not reveal skin beneath. The outfit remains visually covered even as its surface suggests disruption. The tie almost disappears into the pattern, allowing the marks to cross the distinctions between separate garments.

Vogue’s report on EGONLAB’s Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, Lazarus, describes printed, pleated looks through the language of scarring and identifies visual trickery in the black gown. That context supports a reading of these clothes as experiments in apparent instability. The particular contrast here is our interpretation: an opening that is visibly managed beside a covered surface that looks fractured.

Neither look simply abandons elegance. The gown’s length and the other outfit’s orderly collar and tie remain important. They give the eye something familiar to trust, making the uncertain areas more compelling. The pleasure lies partly in looking again to understand what the first glance has mistaken.

Flowers can prompt a smaller version of that second look. A dark marking on a petal may resemble a gap until its edge catches the light. Before treating every dark area as depth, we can ask whether we are seeing space, shadow or colour. Each describes a different relationship within the flower.

左では、黒い布が頭を覆い、胴体に沿って垂れ、低い位置で輪を描いています。片腕には袖があり、反対側の肩と腕は露出している。長いドレスには夜の装いを思わせる端正さがありますが、上半身は、かろうじて支えられているようにも見えます。露出した部分を横切る細い線が、支えの存在をうかがわせながら、構造のすべては説明してくれません。

この不確かさによって、肌の見え方も変わります。露出した身体が、服はどう成り立っているのかという問いの一部になる。頭を覆う布と、開いた胴体も、異なる方向へ印象を引いています。上では隠し、下では見せる。身体を均等に提示するのではなく、布の偏りによって、注意を向ける場所を選んでいます。

右では、襟、ネクタイ、ベルトが、整えられた装いの骨格をつくっています。その上に走る淡い角張った模様は、しわや引っかき傷、細い裂け目のようです。パンツでは大きく明るくなりますが、その下から肌が見えるわけではありません。身体は覆われたまま、表面だけが乱れを感じさせる。ネクタイも模様の中へ溶け込み、別々の服の区切りを越えて、線が続くように見えます。

EGONLABの2026年秋冬コレクション「Lazarus」を扱ったVogueの記事は、プリントとプリーツを用いた装いを傷跡になぞらえ、黒いドレスにも視覚的な仕掛けを見いだしています。その背景を踏まえると、二つの服は、不安定に見える状態を探る表現として読めます。ここでの対比は、今回の解釈です。開いていながら支えられている服と、覆われていながら裂けて見える表面が並んでいます。

どちらも、優雅さを手放しているわけではありません。ドレスの長さも、もう一方の整った襟とネクタイも、重要な役割を残しています。見慣れた形が視線のよりどころとなり、不確かな部分をいっそう気にさせる。最初の一瞥で何を見間違えたのか、もう一度確かめることにも、この服を見る楽しさがあります。

花にも、小さな見直しを促されることがあります。花弁の暗い模様が隙間に見え、縁が光を受けたときに違いに気付くこともあるでしょう。暗い部分をすべて奥行きと捉える前に、それは空間なのか、影なのか、色なのかを考えてみる。それぞれが、花の中の異なる関係を教えてくれます。
